Postureminder is working fine but my other applications lose focus while I'm working

Postureminder should not take focus from other applications so if this is happening whilst Postureminder is running, and stops happening when you exit Postureminder, it may be a problem with your webcam.

Please try uninstalling any free software that came with your webcam, so that only the webcam drivers remain. Also, please make sure your drivers are updated to the latest versions - open Device Manager by right-clicking on My Computer, selecting Properties, then clicking on the Hardware tab and clicking the Device Manager button. Go down the list to Imaging Devices, click to expand it, then right click on your webcam and select Update Driver.

Postureminder can't access my webcam even though it seems to be working in other software

If your webcam works fine in other software, but you find that Postureminder can't connect to it (e.g. in the Calibration screen) there may be a number of causes.

First, check that your webcam is not in use by any other software. You may need to restart Postureminder after closing the other programs so that it can try to connect afresh.

It's also possible that the free software that came with your webcam, or other applications such as Camtasia Studio, are interfering by putting unusual filters in between the webcam feed and Postureminder. Try uninstalling your webcam, then reinstalling it but opting only to install the webcam drivers (you may need to refer to your webcam manufacturer's documentation for advice on how to do this).

Another thing to check, especially if the calibration screen shows a blank rectangle where the webcam image should be, is if there is a file called "cameramethod.pml" in C:\Program Files\PostureMinder.  If not, it may be that Postureminder has tried to create this file but not been able to because of folder permissions.  Try right clicking on the PostureMinder folder, select Properties and go to the Security tab.  Select  Users from the Group or user names box, click Edit, and make sure Modify and Write are allowed.

Postureminder can't find stretch exercises even though files are present

If Postureminder reports that it can't find your stretch exercise videos, but they are present in the directory where you installed Postureminder, please upgrade to the latest version of Postureminder at www.Postureminder.co.uk/upgrade. If this does not solve the problem, please let us know via support@postureminder.co.uk

 

Webcam connection issue: Postureminder encountered a problem trying to use Method: "Special1" to connect to webcam...

If Postureminder reports this error when trying to connect to your webcam, it may be that the software installed with your webcam is interfering with your webcam.

Many manufacturers install, as default, various software toys such as face tracking or special effects which can get in the way of Postureminder accessing the webcam. To avoid this, please uninstall the software that came with your webcam, then re-install but opt only to install the webcam drivers.

Postureminder taskbar/system tray icon gets hidden in Windows 7 or 8

Windows 7/8 automatically hide many system tray icons and there is no way for software to bypass this (otherwise every application would do it!). If you want to see the instantaneous posture feedback icon and get quick access to Postureminder's features, right click on the arrow that reveals the hidden icons, select "Customize notification icons" and choose "Show icon and notifications" for Postureminder.

 

Leap Year Bug - problems from 29th February 2008 onwards

Webcam flickers/incorrect posture reminders

There may be a number of causes for receiving incorrect posture reminders, usually related to adverse lighting conditions. One issue to check is the camera settings - most modern webcams have an Anti-Flicker setting. If, when viewing the webcam output in the calibration window, or in other software, you notice flickering behaviour, please check that this setting correctly reflects your location.

Some text is truncated / Some reminders are cut-off / Calibration image is shifted during ellipse adjustment

This is a known issue related to your display settings. This should have been corrected in versions of Postureminder from 2008 onwards, so if you are using an older version we recommend that you download the latest version of Postureminder from our download page.

If you continue to experience display problems, please report them to support@postureminder.co.uk. You can also change your display settings by using Control Panel->Display->Settings->Advanced->General and changing your DPI setting back to Normal (96DPI)

 

Dell computers + Logitech webcam leads to Windows crashing or applications stopping working

There is a reported problem with the hardware inside some Dell computers being incompatible with older versions of Logitech Quickcam drivers. This problem appears to be related to older versions of drivers for the built-in microphone.

To fix, right click on My Computer, select Properties->Hardware->Device Manager. Under Imaging devices right click on your webcam and select "Update driver..." Under Sound, video and game controllers locate the Logitech Microphone (Quickcam) and again update the driver.

If this doesn't correct the problem, try going back into Device Manager and choose to disable the microphone

 

Installation problem: Error 1723

If you encounter a pop-up error during installation saying something along the lines of: "Windows Installer Error 1723: There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor," this is because your computer does not have an up-to-date copy of the Windows Installer package.

Please search online for a file called WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe - it should be available from the Microsoft website. Please run this to update your version of Windows Installer, then try installing Postureminder again. This is only an issue with older versions of Postureminder.
